About the Author
International Master Rashid Ziyatdinov is one of the most successful players on the U.S. Grand Prix circuit, placing third twice before taking second place honors in the year long competetion in 1999. Ziyatdinov originally comes from Uzbekistan, where he won the national championship in 1981, 1983, and 1985. Since moving to the United States in 1997 he has won first place in a number of prestigious events including the Toronto International, the Chicago Open, and the Koltanowski International.

Bewildering at first, but stay with it

I too reacted as did other reviewers, with an emphatic "What's THIS?" when confronted with page after page of diagrams that don't even indicate which side is on move, and then further pages of master games with nary a hint of an annotation.

I bought the book, initially, to have a collection of positions to use in doing "Stoyko" studies--- briefly, rich middlegame positions to analyze deeply. This book will certainly provide that, but as I'm learning, it will provide still more.

Willing to at least give the author's approach a try, I took the first master game and played over it again and again until I had it memorized. And a funny thing happened. At each replaying, I found myself asking more, different, and deeper questions. Then, I found the diagram in the book that was taken from this game, and it suddenly all clicked.

What it's all about is doing your own analysis, and doing it deeply and repeatedly, taking and revising copious notes as you go along, a la the Stoyko method. Eventually, you will have to check your results with a strong computer program (or a teacher of a least IM level, if you're fortunate enough to have one). But you need to put a minimum of several hours into each game or position before you even think about checking your results. Then you need to put in more hours understanding the computer analysis (or your teacher's guidance). I'm thinking about 10 hours per position or game is required here (that's about where I am), maybe even more.

So what the book is all about, on the bottom line, is hard work. The author provides the raw material--- positions and games that have great teaching value and presumably practical play value. You then put in the hours and the labor (and though it's hard I'm finding it quite enjoyable and rewarding).

It might take you literally a couple of thousand hours to fully work through the book. But I can't help but believe that will lead to serious mastery of many aspects of the game. Stoyko himself claims a potential improvement of about 100 rating points for doing a single deep position study. Obviously there will be diminishing returns, but doing over two hundred such studies, as contained in the book, has simply got to make you into a solid player.

The book (at present writing) can be obtained quite inexpensively on the used market. If (and only if) you're willing to put in the effort, it will be money very well spent.

Perhaps IM-Ram?

The 300 essential position method seems to have been used successfully by many Soviet players. This book only has 250 positions with the rest for you to fill in with your own positions (I don't like this and would rather have had 300 of the author's original positions). Additionally there are some really good classic games in algebraic notation but without move explanations. I believe that the positions here will make you a strong player and memorizing the games as the author suggests would probably reward the effort. Ultimately the book hinges on whether these are indeed important positions for you...I can't answer that. It is far better than Albert's 300 both in terms of content and w/o the tacky cover too. I do find it funny that an IM would write about essential GM knowledge. Perhaps IM-Ram would have been a more accurate, if less catchy, title?
I like the book, but I don't think that having no text is an advantage. If you want to figure things out for yourself, then show some willpower and don't look at the answers! I prefer Kosteyev's 40 lessons for the Club Player, Nunn's Understanding Chess Move by Move, Howell's Essential Chess Endings, and Pongo's Tactical Targets Series. I should also mention that I'm ~1900.

The Road Map to chess mastery

On the surface, the book seems to be a philisophical tome on strategy from Tzun and the art of war along with 240+ chess diagrams with 59 games without annotation. Many will take a superficial look at this work and toss the book without knowing that they merely saw the TIP of the iceberg.

A deeper analysis of the book reveals that the positions provided (which includes ESSENTIAL endgame and middlegame positions), are in fact carefully chosen and each illustrates an important aspect of chess strategy, tactics, and endgame. Are the answers given? Absolutely NOT! It is your job to do the proper research to come up with the answer yourself. Utilize any resources you can (ie. Fundamental Chess Endings / Along with books on chess strategy will help...using a chess engine is another option). The author wants you to be intimately involved with the each and every position: what if its "Black to move"? What if i change the position of some of the pieces? What about only one? What tactical motifs are availible? If you come up with a solution yourself, and you do an honest amount of research into each of the particular positions, you are well on your way to mastery. You are not at a total loss however, since the Classical Games provided at the end of the book included all the middlegame positions. So you can see what moves/plans were in the positions provided.

As far as my results are concerned, I understand chess a LOT more and have gained about 200 rating points 1600 to 1800 USCF. Ive only been through a mere fraction of the problems, and there is always more to learn from most of them. I reccomend this book to students of the game who are go-getters and look at this book as if YOU are completing the work.

Tremendous Breakthrough

I am a longtime hypnotist and hypnotherapist so my understanding of this text came quite easy. I have just begin to use this method and at least preliminarily, my experience is totally consistent what I have found in the book. This appears to me at this point to be a tremendous breakthrough in healing.

Conventional allopathic medicine has a pill to cover up almost any symptom, even if it has to render the patient unconscious or in a stupor. And many of the side effects are worse than the symptom. (ie. from Chantix website: "Some people have had changes in behavior, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts or actions while using CHANTIX to help them quit smoking. Some people had these symptoms when they began taking CHANTIX, and others developed them after several weeks of treatment or after stopping CHANTIX.) This is only one example.

Dr. Yager has had a 99% average success with Subliminal Therapy for smoking cessation with no chemicals whatsoever, hence, no chance of side effects.
This is huge folks. Very few book I have ever read would I rate as highly as this one.

Best Hypnosis Technique I've Seen

This is one of the best techniques I have ever used. I have been a hypnotist for almost 6 years, I have studied direct suggestion, parts therapy, regression to cause, UltraHeight, and much more, but this is the best technique I have used as yet. It is a wonder way to "hypnotize" your client without a formal induction, plus you can do changework without having to drag your client back through the emotional traumas that caused the problems in the first place. This technique will be a cornerstone in my practice from now on.

Though smaller than his previous works, Megargee's fourth self publication does not disappoint. Words For Crows is a lovely, creepy collection of poems sure to delight any horror lover. His poems range from absurd to oddly romantic and sweet. He gives unique perspective to the beauty and balance of life and death. A definite to add to the horror collection.

A Gateway to Dreams and Nightmares....

I have seen images in this book I will never, ever forget. This book takes you places you never knew a mind could take you. Some words of Warning, If you are looking for the style Cohen uses while writing his songs, you will not find it here in this book. What you will find is the nightmarish journey of one woman into sainthood, and three people pushing sanity to it's limit. I have to say this is one of the best novels I have ever read. You have to give it at least 50 pages before you start figuring out what's going on. But once the book takes off there's no going back your in for a ride.

You've done it again, Mr. Maltz.

One of the first copies of Maxwell Maltz's book, Psycho-Cybernetics is still, to this day, on my bookshelf.

In 1961, It did much more than just put me on my quest for self-improvement. For the very first time, someone connected the mind to the body and brought home the old, simple adage ... "Change your Mind and you change your life!"

That was Psycho-Cybernetics. That was the principle of Self Image Psychology ... proven and verified by science itself as an irresistible and powerful no nonsense psychology of happiness and fulfillment.

From there on ... for decades ... everything else that was printed in the Self Help Industry became supporting commentary for the principles in this book.

An now ... the new "enhanced" version of Psycho-Cybernetics just arrived. And Yesssss!!! I enjoyed this one as much as the original. If not more so!

Comparing the two, the new authors kept the voice and the insights of the original text intact, integrating only the updates needed for new generations to come to experience and cherish the joy of reading this old, new classic for the first time. That which doesn't kill you really does make you stronger... it's just a matter of how you choose to see things.

One of the best self help books I've ever read... written in the 60's by a plastic surgeon to help those still disfigured after reconstructive surgery get on with life, it will give you skills to accept and be at peace with almost anything life will ever dump on you. Once you read this you will realize how many recent best sellers just regurgitate knowledge and wisdom that was already available 50 years to centuries ago, now for the sake of making a buck.

This was recommended to me back in 1976 when I was 19, has made all the difference in the world, has also made a profound difference to everyone I have ever suggested this to and helped through crisis (and still do now, 2016.) When everyone is running around with their heads cut off you'll be the calm one wondering what the fuss is all about... able to maintain perspective and focused on what's important and needs to be done personally and professionally when either or both worlds seem to be falling in on you... I've more than survived brain damage (more than once) , divorce, career ending disability, cancer, premature death of those closest to me.. things I never expected... and can say that which doesn't kill you really does make you stronger if you happen to have the right set of coping skills in your bag of tricks. When people marvel how I just keep on going and wonder how I do it.... and I say... read this book... Every moment you are alive is a gift, that's why its called the present. be happy, be well... make the most of what you do have.

I've come across and read a lot from people like Jack Canfield

I've been on a self-help reading kick for about the past year. Between issues in my finances, health, relationships, career, I was being weighed down by it all. I've come across and read a lot from people like Jack Canfield, Joel Osteen, Law of Attraction - Teachings of Abraham, etc. They were all good, uplifting and helpful works in their own right, but something was missing. I was listening to a podcast and the host mentioned this book, which was something I've never heard about - ever or anywhere. I looked it up on Amazon and decided to order it. I am sure glad I did. For me, it brought all of the other ideas, concepts and practices together. Things like affirmations, burning desires, faith, action - they all are great, as long as they're operating in conjunction with the way you see yourself and want to see yourself. This book really stresses the importance of focusing on your self-image, which is something I've found many of the other works glossed over or lacked. It's a good work, laced with some biblical references which aren't overwhelming. If you can spend the money on it, it is certainly a great addition to your library. I've recommended it to everyone.

About the Author
Jane Burry holds a degree in mathematics and is a registered architect. She is currently a research fellow at RMIT’s Spatial Information Architecture Laboratory (SIAL) in Melbourne.

Mark Burry is professor and director of SIAL and founding director of RMIT’s Design Institute.�He is an international expert on the architecture of Antoni Gaud�, and is currently using digital technology to help complete the Sagrada Fam�lia in Barcelona.
