Highly recommend. Thrilling read.

I was fortunate to be asked to beta read the third instalment of Nature's Destiny Guardian's Dynasty by the author Miss Justine Winter (My best friend).
I was honoured to be granted with this, but I am ashamed to say i never made the beta read completion date due to life and work commitments. Anyway Justine was very understanding about this lapse of mine and told me to enjoy the book anyway.

What can I say? It was a PHENOMENAL read, I didn't want to put the book down (unfortunately I had to at times, duty called :-)) It was gripping from start to finish and some of the plot lines in it, kept on surprising me throughout the book (bar one, which I won't spoil for anybody.).

I like the way Justine manages to keep the storyline rolling at an amazing pace, so much so, that it just flows from line to line, page to page and chapter to chapter (Probably why I found it so hard to put down.) She has such a fluid way of writing and the Character's personalities REALLY shine through and take you on their journey with them.

My favourite character has to be Lara, for me she is just so understated and not too 'in your face' type of person, she is so selfless and unassuming, the way she puts all others before herself and the thing she wants the most in life, In love. I think maybe she shines out for me because she hasn't got to have the limelight and she's always there in the background waiting to help those she loves. (It's a shame Luna doesn't have a few flaws at times I feel she's too perfect).

I HIGHLY recommend you read this book, in fact all three, you won't be disappointed. Especially if you like Werewolves, action and a few steamy scenes to boot. Not usually what I would go for, but I LOVE them.

Holy Crap on a Cracker Batman!

I'm not sure I know what to say right now! I am devastated, because SERIOUSLY YOU KILLED OFF TWO CHARACTERS!!!!! I mean, I knew it was coming, but NOT THEM!!!! LOL Ok, now that I've expressed my devastation, I need to say THIS IS THE BEST ONE YET! Seriously, the writing has been flawless from the start, but damn if the story line does not impress me more each time I read! This series has become a die hard must have for me. I to this day THANK HEATHER HILDENBRAND for emailing me one day and asking me if I'd help out a fellow author. That email gave me book one, and I can't say enough how much this series is full of AWESOME!! So with that, I will say this book deserves one word-- MAGNIFICENT!! Oh and a second word.... FREAKING DRAGONS!!! ok that was three LOL

I totally thought Luna was gunna die at the beginning of the book. This leads to happy moments, followed by weird explanations, then tears, then being pissed, then more tears, then the HOLY S*** moment! Ok, so there I told you about the book HAHAHAHAHA You see, I already know not to touch these books unless I can read them through. I'm a fast reader, but I won't put them down. I definitely couldn't put this one down. Each character has grown so much in my book, and now, with Sky's little twist, Lara, Kate, and Queen vamper throwing down some heavy duty crazy, it's just getting to be amazing! There's never a moment when I think of anything else when I read this one. I was too immersed.

I can't talk about things right now, because I WILL NOT spoil things for you. I now understand why Ms Justine said she was anxious for me to read this one. I wanna say bad words and I need revenge. And then I need a tissue. Seriously, these characters will feel like your best friends. Luna is turning into a MAJOR BAD ASS, Riley is everything you could ever want and more, and the pack, I LOVE THEM! I need to spoil one thing. I am SO MAD that THAT dress got ruined, you hear me!! And the new additions, I will not talk about them just yet, but I LOVE them. They amaze me, and the descriptions and mannerisms were just so cool!

So with that, I say-- If you are a fan of good writing, a fantastic story line, wonderful werewolves, manipulative vampers, crazy demons, sexy dudes, and an all around wonderful PARANORMAL ROMANCE- just do yourself a favor and read this series! I mean, there's not enough words I can say about how much I love this series. And there's not enough PAWS to tell you how awesome this is. LIKE 10!! But I can only rate up to 5 PAWS, so fine, I will say 2 x 5 PAWS :) Yep, it's that good. I am still sitting with my jaw on the floor! GO NOW AND GET IT!!!

Descriptive and imaginative

In Guardian’s Dynasty it’s another change for Luna as she and Riley must both decide if they are ready for the commitment of being true mates. A wolf mating is life long and irreversible but Luna is concerned the death sentence hanging over her will influence Riley’s decision. The only way to cancel out the threat is for Luna to mate with her one true love. It’s obvious to everyone else, though that Luna and Riley are meant for each other. To save Luna, she and Riley can’t afford to wait for the mating ritual ceremony to be organised so the second option has to be taken immediately.

Luna is now the female alpha and there must be a wedding party for the pack to acknowledge the mating. Which is when the trouble starts, beginning with the appearance of sink holes and the approaching Blood Moon, when the demons, according to legend, will take over the world.

As the wedding guests, including Luna’s parents and best friend, Sky are enjoying the celebrations Luna’s warning pains begin…and before anyone realises what is happening they are surrounded by incubi and Luna has gone…and things will never be the same for Sky.

Another full on instalment in the lives of Luna, Riley and the pack. There’s never a dull moment, lots of action, changes and romance. Luna is dealing with her newly acquired powers well and learning how to use them, finding out who she really is and her destiny. Justine Winter’s writing is very descriptive and imaginative and I love the cover art for the books, this one especially.

The veritable secrets of the universe are revealed

E. O. Thorp has made a tremendous career from finding opportunities and properly exploiting them as advertised in this ground breaking book. There is no one in the financial world who has had a better risk-adjusted return than Thorp for the last 30 years.

Virtually unknown is the fact that years before, Thorp invented/discovered the formula that is attributed to Black-Scholes, with the exception of the risk-free interest rate factor, because of existing market structure that prevented interest from being a factor.

And Thorp's treatment of the Kelly Criterion makes this a standout work.

Since many have never read this book yet or tried to apply the principles that Thorp revealed in this book, it would be easy to dismiss this as some worn-out idea that has come and gone. Far from it. There is a reason that the few copies that were printed are still in demand.

The old saying is that those who can, do - while those who can't, teach. Thorp proved that he was the former.

If the principles from the book are understood the execution in different markets becomes apparent. In the last 20 years, I have applied the method in different forms in stocks, futures markets and LEAPS, with returns that exceeded the benchmarks stated in the book, with the same relative safety factors.

As long as there are people making investment decisions; who change their views as to whether a tradeable is cheap or dear, the opportunity for this method will remain infinite.

The concept IS the thing.

Dated, but a good filter rule

The strategies in this wonderful book are only employable in Asia now, and in very limited ways (often insurance and bank stocks and bonds) but you take a lot of liquidity risk, so I'm not sure if you are still paid alpha over an expected return.

Still, a marvellous read. Pre-dates the Black-Scholes by five years, but in a replicating portfolio no-arbitrage method (which implies a lognormally distributed expected equity return) which Thorp then correctly pointed out was arbitrageable.

This book also serves as a curious filter rule. Those who read this and understand the old world and Thorp's method most likely can see current methods and models and break them down and differentiate them into tractable and fantasy. Credit structures who've relied on standard cash-flow and default probability metrics would have done well to start with Thorp to see how what they construct can be de-constructed by clever boots who see both the strengths of the original construct, and the copula methods and correlation assumptions in the structure (and its decay) to make arbitrage opportunities. In other words; if they read Thorp and "get it" they have a lower likelihood of being hoodwinked going forward.

Definitive and Thorough Retelling of the Pearl Harbor Attack, With Stunning Photography

My husband is a retired Naval officer and a history buff, so I gave him this book for Christmas and he just couldn't put it down until he read every page and looked at every picture. He still hasn't stopped talking about what he learned from this book. He then convinced me to read it. Through well written essays and excellent photographic coverage of the event, every detail of the Pearl Harbor tragedy, before, during and after, is contained in this high quality book. History comes alive via the thorough retelling of the massive attack that launched the U.S. into World War II. Whether you choose to read the book from cover to cover, or just pick it up and browse through photos, captions and essays, you will be informed and entertained about a period of history that both humiliated and motivated the U.S. to fight the war on both fronts.

Customer service -- what an old idea.

In today's environment where people have become accustomed to being treated like "walking wallets" by the places where they choose to spend their hard earned cash, the notion of providing outstanding service to one's customers is not a revolutionary idea. In fact, Mr. Michelli, does not present anything revolutionary in his book. What is revolutionary is that an online company like Zappos can capitalize on the old notion of customer service turn it into a religion of sorts, prosper, and remain humble. Zappos' philosophy is based upon the notion of creating happiness, not only to its customers, but also by creating a happy environment for its employees.

Although many of the ideas that made Zappos successful will not work as a cookie-cutter approach with all corporations, the overall philosophy will. Regardless of what industry one works in, the philosophy is worth adhering to -- that is, selling happiness at every level, and never forgetting that the customer is always right.

This book is also full of great resources and interactive guides. Well worth a read!

Big fan of the zappos culture and this book. It shed some light on some key areas in terms of where the company prioritized time and efforts to foster a culture that flys in the face of what many organizations only pay lip service. Unlike other companies, zappos puts in the hard work to create such a culture.

PEARLSON is president of KP Partners, a CIO advisory services firm specializing in executive education and management coaching in the area of strategic use of information systems and organizational design. A former faculty member of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Pearlson is the co-author of Zero Time: Providing Instant Customer Value—Every Time, All the Time (John Wiley & Sons, 2000). Dr. Pearlson holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) in Management Information Systems from the Harvard Business School and both a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering Management and a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics from Stanford University.

DR. CAROL S. SAUNDERS is professor of Management at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida and Schoeller Senior Fellow (2012) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremburg. She served as General Conference Chair of the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in 1999 and Telecommuting '96. She was editor-in-chief of MIS Quarterly from 2005-2007. She has received the Association of Information Systems (AIS) LEO award for lifetime accomplishments and is a Fellow of the AIS. Content suffers from poor grammar/typos/missing words

I'm usually able to overlook a few typos here and there, but this book is in terrible shape and needs a thorough review by the publisher. I've had to pause to parse quite a number of sentences due to missing words, missing punctuation, and typos. It's quite rough going, and even a cursory review should have caught many of these. Errors are throughout all chapters I've read so far.

The author states up front that this book doesn't delve deeply into current IS platforms, which is fine, but why not at least direct us to other resources that do a good job of this?

The book is giving a decent review of various business models and isn't too technically intensive. For my purposes, this is a plus, but perhaps others would find this a detriment. Again, it would be nice to be pointed to other resource to fill this gap.

Given that I complain about grammar and typos, I hope my review is relatively free of them.

Good textbook, poor proofreading

This book was assigned as the text for an MBA course I am taking. It is well written and very understandable. The case studies included in the text help the reader really understand the concepts being discussed. The book is printed on good quality paper. Proofreading could have been better. There are a lot of typographical errors for a textbook, so I can only rate it 4 out of 5.

Bought this as required reading for an MBA class. Fairly easy read. Some concepts were over my head. Not having any IS experience I sort of expected that though. But they do a good job of bringing the info down to real world level without making you feel like it's dumbed down.

So-so

Like many business books, "The Elements of Persuasion" contains pages and pages pages of case studies, many of which appeared to me to be rather weakly linked to the concept of storytelling. By the end, I was skipping over entire sections because the case studies just did not feel relevant. I was left wishing for more original content.

The authors also try to relate many concepts in the book to the elements of fire, earth, water, air, and space. These analogies seemed awkward and unnecessary at times.

Finally...I understand the "passion, hero, antagonist, awareness, transformation" concepts, but I would have liked more concrete, hands-on information on how these concepts can be integrated into corporate sales scenarios (not an unfair comment, as this is really how they are pitching the book).

Cheesy but useful

The good: this book offers a useful, simple methodology to sell using the power of stories; if you know what you sell well, and if you have any sort of passion for what you do, you'll probably already have some of the elements, but it's always good to read someone else's view and have a more complete methodology. It's also a light read.

The not so good: an endless, almost unbearable litany of sappy US centric examples; I don't mean just the people (Warren Buffet! The Marines! Senator so and so!), but also the world view, as revealed by the worshipping of shysters, CEO's and other assorted car sales people: be a winner! Because we all want to be winners! Sell that cereal! Anyone with a more wordly or even just european view will either cringe or laugh... Outside the US few people dream of selling more cereal, and some find the void of such a life unbearable.

Still, not all is lost, because you might have figured out a way to actually like what you do or are looking for something worthy of doing, and in that case you still need a way of selling it, even if selling is not in your blood or the mere fact of thinking about it repulses you: By telling your story in a way your client cares about, the selling becomes more natural. And just as importantly, developing that story might make everyone in your organisation more involved, happier with their work and more productive.

It would be great if someone came out with this same methodology from the perspective of all those who have a sense of professionalism but are looking to apply it to something more interesting than selling that darned cereal / CDO / deodorant.

It's All in The Story

Storytelling is a powerful way to engage people within the sales process. The authors in this book immediately begin in the first chapter help you understand how to construct a powerful story. There are five elements involved in this creation.

1. Passion - the energy of delivery and emotions expressed
2. Hero - provide a point of view and engages the audience
3. Antagonist - obstacles that need to be overcome
4. Awareness - opportunity to learn from story
5. Transformation - the happy ending

Within the passion element, the authors contend that a good story has an element of surprise. This surprise factor helps to spread the story through word of mouth. Modern day examples of heroes cited included: Warren Buffet, Frank Perdue and Colonel Sanders. Then the authors walk the reader through the other four elements.

This book is a great template to help sales professionals craft a compelling story and learn how to leverage storytelling as part of their sales skills allowing them to truly be The Red Jacket in a sea of gray suits
