About the Author
Richard Montauk is the author of How to Get into the Top Law Schools and How to Get into the Top Colleges, as well as the founder and president of Degree of Difference, a firm that has helped thousands of applicants get into the world's top law and business schools. He received a B.A. from Brown University, an M.S. in Finance, and a J.D. from Stanford University. He formerly worked as a corporate lawyer and a corporate strategy consultant. He divides his time between London, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.

You Will Be Disadvantaged Without it

I'm currently a senior at Cornell University, and if there has been one book that has effectively navigated my Law School Application Process, it has been Mr.Montauk's "How to get into the Top Law Schools" guide. Mr Montauk will decribe, in depth, the best way to prepare your personal satement, resume, and how to proceed if waitlsited or rejected by your top choice. He also effectively communicates how to choose the right school for you, preferred LSAT course, and how to minimize the cost of Law School and how to construct your marketing strategy. The book also includes quotes from real Law School Deans on what they expect from applicants and what they can do to maximize their strenghs and minize their weaknesses. Simply put, this is the best guide on the market that guides you from deciding on Law School to what to expect in your law career. I whole heartedly recommend this book.

Most of the work to get into law school is done in college and on the LSAT

This book is nice. It goes through all the different areas that law schools focus on when looking at an application. GPA? Check. LSAT score? Check. Application packet? Check.
What you should know, however, is that this book is almost useless if you are reading it right before you take the LSAT and are getting ready to write your application packet up. Why? Because GPA and LSAT score are the MOST important factors in getting in to a top law school. It's like a job application, your credentials get you in the door and you personality gets you the job. Thing is, in this case, your credentials are your GPA and your LSAT and your personality is the application packet. You won't even get considered if you don't have a good GPA and a good LSAT score.
I just want to let you know this before you buy the book. I thought the application packet was more important than it was and was sorely disappointed to know that although I had good grades and a good packet (in my opinion), my LSAT was low and therefore I wouldn't get in to a top law school.
By the way, as a soon to be graduate, the legal market for jobs is terrible and if you are looking at going to law school, my suggestion is to really consider it as three years from now you could be in massive debt and pulling your hair out looking for a job.

Must read for anyone thinking of applying

This is by far the best book I've read to prepare myself for the dreaded application process, I truly feel like I have an advantage over others who haven't read it. What I like a lot is that this book starts off discussing the realities of law school and the legal profession in general. The book would be of best use to those who are far from applying, however one of the great elements about it is that it also accommodates to those who will be applying fairly soon. It also does a great job discussing the possible ways to improve one's applications even if their credentials are not top notch. Great book, if you are merely thinking about applying to law school (even if you are not aiming for a top institution), I highly suggest you read this!
